Service Learning
What is Service Learning
Maryland students are required to take part in service learning in order to get a diploma. The purpose of service learning is to apply what you learn in school to the real world. Examples of service learning are:
- serving meals for the homeless,
- visiting people in nursing homes, or
- helping with an environmental project.
Why Service Learning is a Good Thing to Do
Service learning is a great opportunity to find out what interests you. It also may help guide your career decisions. These activities can be included in a job application.
You Need 75 hours of Service Learning to Graduate
The Maryland State Department of Education requires 75 hours of service learning during middle and high school. Your school must approve the place or program for service learning.
